Why Hollow Lantern is better without a walkthrough

August 10, 2026 · Marek Nowak

This is an odd article for a guide site, but Hollow Lantern is a game I'd tell you to play without our help first. Its puzzles are built so that being briefly stuck is part of the pleasure.

Every solution comes from something the game already showed you. When I felt stuck, the answer was almost always a detail I'd walked past. Slowing down to look was the whole skill.

If you do get truly stuck, the fix is usually to revisit an area after lighting a new lantern rather than to solve something clever. The town rearranges itself, and old rooms open new paths.

I'll offer one nudge and no more: pay attention to sound. The audio changes near solutions, and I only noticed after several hours. That single realization unlocked a chunk of the game.

So treat this less as a walkthrough and more as encouragement. Sit with it. This one's worth the patience.
